Ben Guest – United Nations Sustainability Award Winner

The United Nations Association of Australia awarded prizes for 2014 World Environment Day on 13 June at Luna Park in Sydney.

A joint Yarra Council and Cultivating Community program involving Ben Guest our wonderful Garden teacher in our Kitchen Garden program, has been named the winner for sustainability education. The Food Know How program was one of four finalists commended for environmental work. Proud Mary, Slowpoke and De Clieu are just a handful of Melbourne cafés signed up to the program, which involves food storage, composting and worm farming.

Kaylyn Hawkes is cafés co-ordinator on Food Know How’s food waste and composting team, which includes Margaret Finger and Ben Guest.
