Here are some more diary entries about the recent China Trip:
Day 7 and 8 Students spent the weekend with their host families.
Day 9 After a weekend in homestay the students set off for a day at the elite Suzhou Arts School. Our first class was a dance lesson. After 2 hours of dance instruction we had a yummy lunch with staff and students of our new sister school. We experienced a ‘love’ lesson that involved some Bejing Opera mask painting. Our final lesson allowed us to try our hand at painting water colours ..Titian was a star by drawing inspiration.
Day 10 After the farewell ceremony with our beloved sister school students and staff in the morning, we visited Wuxi and the Three Kingdoms movie world. Upon arriving in Nanjing, we paid a visit to a pearl farm and had a lesson on pearl mussel life cycle.
Day 11 We started our day by visiting Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, and we went to Confucius Temple market for lunch before flying to Xi’an.
Day 12 We started today with a visit to Tangbo art centre for a calligraphy lesson and art styles history lesson, and then we visited the Terracotta Warriors Museum located in rural Xi’an. We saw the human size Terracotta Amy made and buried more than 2000 years ago! In the evening we took an overnight train to Beijing.
Day 13 We arrived in Beijing in the morning. After check in we visited Beijing Kangleli Primary School and established a new sister school relationship. Later that day we had a rickshaw ride around the Hutongs(narrow streets) before having a delightful Peking duck meal.
Day 14 We climbed the Juyongguan Great Wall and every student made it all the way to the top… Our first tour group ever to achieve this! We visited the Confuscius Institute for a fun afternoon of activities. We finised the day with an evening stroll around the olympic precinct.
Day 15 The last day of the trip we went to the Forbidden city and Tian’anmen square. Our last activity was on the way to the airport.We stopped at a Tea House for a lesson on tea. Despite sampling some great tea everyone loved the tutor and the ‘Pee Pee Boy’ was an instant hit!
