Physical Education, Health & Inter-School Sport

Collingwood College has excellent facilities, including a brand new, state of the art, $14m Sports Complex consisting of three full-size gymnasiums (with seating for spectators), an all-weather oval at the front of the school and a smaller grass oval to the rear.

The College has a policy of encouraging all students to be active before, during and after school, including participating with local sporting teams and clubs. We also give students the opportunity to participate at Inter-School Sport each term where they can represent Collingwood College at selected sporting events.

From informal activities such as lunchtime basketball, indoor soccer and volleyball games, to competitive Inter-School Sport, many opportunities are given to all students to get involved in a range of sports and outdoor activities.

Sportsfield

Our synthetic oval was completed in 2020 and boasts an all-weather surface with a FIH & FIFA standard playing surface. Students are invited to utilise this field during recess and lunchtime in addition to their allocated and chosen sporting events. The Sports Field can accommodate soccer, hockey, futsal, netball, baseball, running, and lacrosse.

House Sport Carnivals

House Sport competitions are held annually for Swimming and Athletics. The Swimming Carnival is for all students from Years 5 -10 and the Athletics Carnival is for all students from Years 5 -12. These are whole school events for the specific year groups where all staff and students attend for the school day.

The competitive house system consists of four houses:

  • Banksia – Red House
  • Blue Gum – Blue House
  • Eucalyptus – Green House
  • Wattle – Yellow House

Students can score points for their given House during many school activities throughout the year and Shields are presented for the Highest placed house.

Inter-School Sport

All students have the opportunity of representing Collingwood College in the Inter-School Sporting events. We have built a strong reputation for both high participation and performance winning several Flags along the way.

The range of sports on offer as part of the SSV competition includes swimming, athletics, cross-country, cricket, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, Australian football, netball, football (soccer), basketball, hockey and table tennis.

Junior School Program

The goal of our program is to help our students develop a healthy and physically active lifestyle. We achieve this by providing an inclusive curriculum covering physical activity and movement, food and nutrition, health and safety and human development and relations.

All children participate in weekly, hour-long PE sessions taken by the PE teacher. The College’s three large gymnasiums mean wet weather does not affect the program. During Term 4, students from Foundation to Grade 4 participate in a week-long swimming program.

Our Foundation students enjoy both a weekly PE lesson, as well as the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), which is a program that focuses on improving gross and fine motor skills, that assist in learning other skills such as handwriting.

The upper-year levels also have the opportunity to participate in inter-school Gala Days each term. These Gala Days include soccer, basketball, athletics, netball, and many more.
